Who Am I Apart From My Chronic Illnesses?

I was inspired by a question in Sam Moss’s post https://mymedmusings.com/2020/01/11/a-case-of-chronic-illness-overload/ to talk about something other than chronic illness this week.

She asked, “So, chronic illness aside….who are you, who am I?” So here are my answers to that question.

Who Am I?

I’m a daughter to my parents.

I’m the oldest sibling for my two brothers and sister.

I’m divorced.

I’m mom to six children ages 32 to 20. The two oldest are daughters; the rest are sons.

I’m a new grandma-in-waiting. Baby is due in August 2020.

I’m a medically retired Registered Nurse.

I love Jesus, and my children. I love my church, too!

I wanted to be a librarian!

I love reading.

I like to create art journals, and art cards.

Green leafy trees, with the sound of gurgling water restores my soul.

I was horse crazy as a young girl, but wasn’t allowed to ride horses. “It was too dangerous,” according to my father. So, I read every horse book in my local library, and played with my small plastic horses for hours in the grass.

I like craft projects. I still have the Christmas wreath I made out of wire and pine cones for my first apartment.

Movies, Books, & Music

I love many British television shows. Dr. Who is the best! The Crown! Doc Martin.

In Harry Potter world, I’m a Hufflepuff.

I just finished reading Educated by Tara Westover. My favorite quote was when one of her professors said to her, ” ‘You are not fool’s gold, shining only under a particular light. Whomever you become, whatever you make yourself into, that is who you always were. It was always in you…You are gold.’ “

I love all kinds of music: worship, country, classic rock, alternative, and music from different cultures. I just discovered Bhangra. It makes me happy! Check it out here:

My favorite Irish folk music is by Daoiri Farrell. You can listen to him here. He also makes me happy.

I love to travel to other places by watching You Tubers’ videos from around the world. I enjoy Shaun from Scotland. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4AqHL8LvKrwQw1VOYNBHnQ

I also really like Maria at Northern Heart. She had some really great Advent videos in December that highlighted Swedish Christmas Traditions.

Finally, I also enjoy watching movies. My favorite movie that I watched recently on You Tube was A Street Cat Named Bob. You can see it here:
