Are you struggling with emotional eating? If you said yes, perhaps The Tapping Solution for Weight Loss & Body Confidence would help you. It’s a 7 week course taught by Jessica Ortner that uses tapping or EFT to help release stress and unhelpful beliefs around the topic of weight. If you want to know what tapping is click here.
For those who’ve been around for a while, you know I’ve been a big fan of the Bright Line Eating Plan. In fact, I lost 70 pounds on this eating plan. However, the last two years have been so very stressful for me, that I have returned to eating my emotions. Hello weight gain and all the self-accusation that goes with it.
Having regained all the weight I’d lost, I signed up for this tapping plan mid-May 2022, and had every intention of doing the tapping work. Then my dad ended up in the hospital and I got sick. Then I tried to set a boundary with him and my mom and panicked about it. BTW trying new things like setting boundaries when you’ve never set them before will cause extreme anxiety. Be forewarned and be gentle with yourself. I wasn’t gentle with myself so I quit the program after two weeks.
Fast forward to today, 11/13/2023. I’ve recently restarted this coursework. I finally got chapter 1’s workbook exercises done. Who knows when I’ll get it finished, but I decided to tell you about this program in case you’d have more success. When I do the tapping exercises on a strong emotion, I do feel better. This is why I think you might benefit, even if you only use tapping for that.
An Example of How Tapping Helps with Emotions
For example, I was feeling very anxious when I was downloading the files from my book cover designer. I couldn’t understand why I was panicking about it. When I started to tap about it, I suddenly remembered previous experiences when a company or person took my money and didn’t provide what they promised to provide. Now my anxiety made sense and I felt better knowing what was going on.
The tapping helped decrease my panic.
Other Features of the Course + Cons
The coursework comes with access to a Facebook group and videos for each lesson. You also get access to her library of tapping meditations.
One downside to this course is it’s price. Fortunately, Jessica has also written a book by the same name which is much more accessible.

For me, a second downside to tapping is I don’t always have the energy to do it. It requires being able to raise your arm to the top of your head and then move downwards tapping on various points on your face and chest. You repeat the head to chest tapping points throughout the meditation. You’re supposed to tap long enough to reduce whatever strong emotion you’re feeling. In my experience that can take 5-10 minutes.
If you aren’t able to do the tapping because of energy or mobility limitations, I don’t recommend tapping for you.
Wrap-Up of Tapping for Weight Loss
The first time I tried this course, I gave up because I couldn’t do it perfectly. Each lesson was only supposed to take one week and it was not enough time for me to get through the material with all the other things going on in my life. I’ve decided to try again and just move through the material at my own pace. This quote from Jessica has helped:

I also restarted the Bright Line Eating Plan in August. I lost 20 pounds, but have really struggled recently with sticking with it. I’ll be glad when I get my book uploaded to Amazon, because the anxiety of making the many decisions necessary to publish a book is really bugging me. And stress leads to emotional eating, friends. It’s a vicious cycle. And a frustrating one.
The only thing that helps is knowing I’m not the only one who struggles with emotional eating and weight.
