The Curable App: Does It Help Reduce Or Cure Pain

(I purchased this app with my money and won’t get any compensation for writing this review.)

What Is The Curable App

First, the Curable App is a program of education, meditation, writing, and brain-training exercises that help the user re-train their brain in order to calm down chronic pain. You can use this program on your phone or computer.

  • Education: “Short pain science lessons that explain how various biological, psychological, emotional, and lifestyle factors may be contributing to your pain.”
  • Meditation: “Guided meditations specifically designed to calm your nervous system and reinforce what you’re learning about your pain.”
  • Writing: “Guided exercises designed to help you apply these factors to your own unique situation. The most common piece of advice we hear from long-time Curable users? DO THE WRITING, and do it early on in your journey.”
  • Brain Training: “Exercises to help reprogram the way your brain and nervous system respond to pain, reduce the fear of pain, and improve your control over it.” (These descriptions came from a Curable app email.)

The three creators of the Curable app state that using these techniques has healed their chronic pain. Personally, I’m sceptical of any treatment that claims to heal chronic pain completely. You can read their stories here.

My Experience With The Curable App

I started using the Curable app in July 2021 by a 14-Day Free Trial. They suggest using it about 3 times a week. I haven’t been that disciplined with using it, so I can’t say if using it that often would have decreased my pain more. Using it one to two times a week has been helpful. I love the meditations. You can choose from a 10, 15, or 20 minute meditation and what you want to focus on. I use these at bedtime when I’m feeling too wound up and painful. They help me get to sleep.

It contains an emergency mode that you can play for a pain flare. This mode has definitely helped quiet down my pain flares. I’m seeing a connection between high anxiety and my neck/shoulders/and headache pain. When I use the app for flares, it calms down my pain.

Would I Recommend The Curable App

Finally, I recommend this app to help manage chronic pain. If you have the money, they also have a 90 day Pain Intensive Course. Even if you cannot afford their course, they send emails with resources from pain specialists, infographics, and client stories. Check it out! It just might be your next pain management tool. If it’s helped your pain, I’d love to hear your story.

As with any pain management tool, check with your healthcare providers to make sure this app will not conflict with other treatments you’re receiving. Also, adapt the app to what works for you. For example, some people find it anxiety-provoking to breathe along with an app exercise. When I’m having a pain flare, I just lie still and watch the breathing app get bigger and then smaller. Just focusing on the little box helps me calm down enough that I can start taking deep breaths. Be gentle with yourself as you learn new skills.

Till next time, Kathy
