Today we’re checking in with Sheryl at A Chronic Voice for March 2022’s Writing Prompts. According to Sheryl, “The linkups are a monthly get together for anyone with a chronic illness, mental disorder or disability. An opportunity to share, to listen, and to learn from one another through shared writing prompts. I also think it’s a great way to provide insight into life with chronic pain, from many points of view.”
March 2022’s writing prompts are: Processing, Relying, Retreating, Cancelling, and Reframing.
Processing
There is a retreat for domestic violence survivors happening in April. Earlier this month, I filled out an application for a scholarship to attend. I discovered on Monday that my application processed and I got the scholarship, so I can go! I’m really excited and nervous! I haven’t been able to attend in-person conferences or retreats for too long.
Since I’m flying to the conference site, I’m also processing everything I need to get ready to fly. I haven’t flown in about two decades! Thankfully, I have a friend who flies frequently who shared her tips. I’m ready for an adventure!
Retreating
There’s something about spending a few days in a new environment without one’s usual responsibilities that is very refreshing. I’m so looking forward to spending three days in the mountains of North Carolina. Registration for this retreat is closed now, but they will offer recordings of the sessions. Relying
I recently finished reading The Story Of With: A Better Way To Live, Love, & Create by Allen Arnold. It was this book that encouraged me to apply for the scholarship to attend this retreat. The book’s premise is God doesn’t want us to just survive our lives, but to experience them as a journey with Him full of wonder, the unexpected, and His love and grace.
I realized that I’ve been living small, worried about getting covid, and becoming more socially awkward. So I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and relying on my God to go with me on this adventure.
Reframing & Cancelling
I’m a pessimist at heart. Negative thoughts have been my companions for decades. I’ve decided that I’m tired of living in this place. The world is a miserable place, but I don’t have to be! So I’m working on reframing my thoughts. Purposefully choosing to see the good in life and people. Writing three things I’m thankful for each day. Thank you, dear readers for coming by and sharing in my life.
Perhaps it’s just that spring is coming, and I’m feeling better than in the dark winter. However, I’m determined, with God’s help, to become a more optimistic person. I’m cancelling my subscription to negative thinking. If you struggle with negative thinking too, read this post for more help: https://www.upbeatliving.net/speak-words-life-to-yourself/
